Your Town Cazenovia: Marquardt
Recently, Marquardt was featured in a short video by CNY Central, a local news organization, as part of its “Your Town” series. There’s some excellent video footage of the inside and outside of our Cazenovia facility, and you can see for yourself what a state-of-the art manufacturing operation looks like. But what’s it like to live in Cazenovia, a small town in upstate New York that you may not have heard of before?
Cazenovia is 20 miles southeast of Syracuse and part of the scenic Finger Lakes Region. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population was 6,695 in 2020. That’s not much different than the 2010 census, but Cazenovia might seem like a big change from where you are today – especially if you’re used to a city or the suburbs. There’s a lot to do here, however, and Cazenovia is a great place to work and live.
Outdoors, Indoors, and All-Year Round
Do you like spending time outdoors? Then you’ll love Cazenovia Lake, a scenic body of water with a 10-mile shoreline. Largemouth bass and pickerel abound, and you can launch a boat right from Lakeside Park, the perfect place for a picnic. If you’d rather canoe or kayak, you could set out from Helen McNitt State Park instead. Lakeland Park has a sandy beach with lifeguards, and dog-friendly Gypsy Bay is known for its shallow watering hole. In the winter, the ice fishing on the lake is legendary.
Chittenango State Park is another local gem. There’s a picturesque 167-foot waterfall along with miles of trails to hike and plenty of flora and fauna to enjoy. If art is among your interests, then check out the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park or Cazenovia Artisans. While you’re downtown, see what’s new at Lavender Blue, one of the many unique shops that are near Cazenovia College, an independent educational institution that U.S. News has named one of “America’s Best College” for eighteen years in a row.
Do you enjoy a good meal, and spending time with family and friends? If casual dining is on the menu, try The Brea Loch Scottish Restaurant & Inn. For a fine dining experience, visit The Brewster Inn, a top 40 DiRoNA Award winning restaurant. You’ll also like Meier’s Creek Brewing Company, a craft brewery and taproom where music and entertainment abound. Critz Farms is known for is delicious ales, ciders, and hard ciders, along with seasonal festivals and celebrations. Don’t forget the country store and tap room at Nelson Farms either. There’s always something to do in Cazenovia: indoors, outdoors, and year-round.
